SHAW FINE WOODWORKING HOSTS BUSINESS AFTER HOURS: Mark your calendar to be at Shaw Fine Woodworking, 3727 NC 18 South, in Whitehead's historic Joines' Store building, for Business After Hours Thursday, Oct. 6, 5-7p. The Shaw brothers are known for their construction and musical skills and you will get to experience both. Ray Shaw has turned the old Joines store building into his shop and store and it never looked better. His workworking skill is evident in every piece he crafts. Also available are home accessories including exquisitely decorated gourds, lampshades crafted from botanicals and art by his son Jarrod Shaw, who also does custom portraits. (What a unique Christmas or birthday gift?) And you will hear a rare musical performance by the Shaw Brothers. Which ones? I'm not saying. You'll just have to come and see. It 3 1/2 miles from Sparta but worth the drive. 336-529-4080
TRUNK 'N TREAT IS COMING: The annual Halloween Bash at Crouse Park will be here sooner than you think. Sponsors, the Sparta Revitalization Committee and the Chamber, are recruiting volunteers to bring their car, truck or SUV to Crouse Park Monday, Oct. 31, around 4:30p to distribute treats from your car trunk, pickup bed or open hatch. Decorated vehicles are most welcome. If you can't bring a vehicle, donations of treats are appreciated (healthy treats are especially appreciated). Groups that would like to offer activities for youngsters that evening are welcome to call and discuss their plans. Get information and/or sign up your vehicle or treat donation at the Chamber, 58 South Main Street, 336-372-5473, or call Barbara Lucier with the SRC, 336-372-1525 or 372-6135. There will be games, a costume contests and more fun at Trunk 'N Treat between 5 and 7p. Adults can dress up too. (In the next Briefing I will recognize the first person to email me with the name of the headless individual pictured.) Merchants, we will have posters in the coming weeks. Help us publicize this activity. Steer kids to a safe event rather than roaming the streets during dusk.

It's quick and easy to do. (And when was the last time DOT asked for your opinion?) Just go to their website, pick your language preference and get started. It took me about 8 minutes, but I'm poky.
