PREGNANCY CENTER TO HOST BUSINESS AFTER HOURS: Join friends after work to learn about the many services the Pregnancy Center, 226 South Main Street, offers young families on Thursday, November 10, 5-7p. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and network with friends. If you have an infant or are expecting, you'll want to come and register for a new Kolcraft Bassinet to be given away. (Please note that the bassinet may not resemble to illustration at the right). 336-372-7844 or 336-372-5473
WHAT A CROWD FOR HALLOWEEN! I think the crowd for Trunk 'N Treat at Crouse Park was biggest ever. And we had 16 decorated vehicles, which I also think is a high. Thanks everyone: Beta Club, Razor's Edge, Clark Hunter, the costume contest emcee, the Sparta Revitalization Committee and Merchants Committee. We all did good! I put up lots of photos on the Chamber's Facebook page. Check them out and see how many friends you can tag.NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: MURPHY'S MERCANTILE: The old adage about weddings -- something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue -- could almost apply to Chrysty Murphy's new shop in the old Northwestern Bank Building, 6 South Main St., kitty-cornered to the Courthouse. She has a mix of items handmade by her, new items, and items that she has added adornments too. All of it is unique, quirky and, I think you'll agree, appealing. Check out the winter cap I tried on. Is that me or what? Drop in and check it out. I think you'll be surprised. 336-372-1988
GIVE THE GIFT OF HEALTH: With the holiday season upon us, the Alleghany Wellness Center has Gift Certificates. This is a great gift idea for your friends and loved ones. Give the gift of wellness instead of the usual sweater, candy, or tie. Also it is the time of year to think about your year-end tax free donations. Consider Alleghany Wellness Center, a 501c-3 non-profit, as part of your donation plan. 336-372-2944
PLAN A SPRING TRIP: The Alleghany Council on Aging is offering a fantastic trip to Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills of South Dakota via motorcoach transportation. The trip from Sparta is 11 days/10 nights, $829 - 2012 price per person double occupancy. Join the group May 25 through June 4 2012. Contact Barbara Church for further information at 336-372-4640.
GET ON THE EVERGREEN TRAIL: The choose and cut farms of the Alleghany Christmas Tree Association were awarded a $30,000 grant to promote Choose and Cut. This is not a Chamber project, but we don't have $30,000 to promote the county for the entire year. They are using the money to steer traffic to EvergreenTrailChristmasFarms.com. With that much money focused on that site, you may want to advertise. And advertising is very reasonable. (Check in-season ads on page 2.) For details, call Amy Lucas at 336-372-5597 or Lizabeth Roupe at 336-372-4342.
COUPON SPECIAL AT NIKOLAS: Click to download and print this coupon for a dinner for two at Nikolas (Good through November). And check below for details on live music this Friday and Saturday nights.
>> Crouse House Pickers: Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6p. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
