YOUR HELP NEEDED:
The Alleghany Wellness Center is seeking $50,000 in grant funds from Pepsi to replace the canvas and vinyl cover over their pool with an insulated roof. The savings in utility costs would be significant. To be awarded the grant, your vote is needed. Please follow the link below and vote:

LATE SHERIFF JOE ROBERTS REMEMBERED: A ceremony at 5p Saturday will honor and remember the service of the late sheriff, Joe Roberts, at the Law Enforcement Center. Roberts served from 1978 to 1990. A plaque in his honor will be hung at the Center. All citizens are invited to attend.

SKYLINE TELEPHONE ANNUAL MEETING SATURDAY: Ashe High School in West Jefferson is the location of Skyline Telephone's Annual meeting this Saturday and it is open to all active members of the cooperative. Registration is from 8 - 10:15a. The business meeting begins at 10:30a. Incumbent local director R.C. Mitchel is nominated for a 3-year term. LITTLE RIVER GALLERY DISPLAY AT LIBRARY: The artisans of the Little River Gallery in Sparta will be displaying their art at the Alleghany County Library for the month of October beginning Monday, Oct. 4. HURRY TO GEM VALLEY: If you're hoping to do any more prospecting this year, you better hurry over to the Gem Valley, the area's gem mining headquarters. Saturday, Oct. 16, is their last day this season. The are open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are located 2.5 miles off NC 88 on Little Peak Creek Road. Drop by the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main St., Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
>> Driving Loops: Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is a about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main St., Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
