BUSINESS AFTER HOURS THIS THURSDAY: Innovative Occasions is hosting an after hours this Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in their new location in Trojan Village Shopping Center (next to the Cutting Corner). Drop in after work to see what Denise and Maynard Brooks have added to their business. With their move to this more convenient location, they still offer event and wedding planning and floral arrangements, but they's added coffee drinks, baked goods and movie rentals (yes, a movie rental store has returned to Sparta). Drop in any time, but come Thrusday to sample the goodies, check out your favorite flick and network with friends this March 3.

NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Mountain Laurel Moravian Fellowship. This newest of Christian congregations to our area has as its mission is to serve believers and seekers of the Christian faith through vibrant, meaningful worship and service to the Ashe, Allegheny, and Wilkes County communities and beyond. Services are held the second and fourth Sundays of each month in the sanctuary of the Transou United Methodist Church on NC 88 in Laurel Springs, on the left just under two miles from the intersection with NC 18. Set on the ridge of a peaceful mountain meadow, this setting for place affords the opportunity for authentic fellowship and refreshment of the spirit. The pastor, Rev. DANCING WITH THE STARS: We have tickets for this March 26 event that shows off the unexpected talent of local notables.

CALLING ALL TECH-SAVVY TEENS, 13-19: Show off your tech skills during Alleghany Library's Teen Tech Celebration. Create a demonstration using any multi-media, about “Why I Love My Library” and submit it to the Library through March 18, 122 N. Main Street. Entries will be judged and prizes will be awarded on March 31.The winning entry may be used for library publicity purposes but entries may not be publicized until after judging takes place. HAPPENING EVERY WEEK: Alleghany Jubilee. I ran into someone who reads this email, but doesn't read it all the way to the bottom, so from time to time I will call attention to the activities that happen every week and are featured at the bottom of the Briefing. The Alleghany Jubilee presents some of the best in traditional music for listening or dancing every Tuesday, beginning at 7p and every Saturday, 8p. >>Barn Quilt Trails: Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with large squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
>>Driving Loops: Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
>> Alleghany Historical Museum is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
