Museum ribbon cut in the snow: Saturday's snow did not delay the ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening of Alleghany's Historical Museum. A small crowd braved winter weather to celebrate and enjoy a spread of holiday food at the Alleghany Jubilee. More pictures at the Chamber's Facebook page.

Keep voting to raise the roof: They've extended the vote through December and if you saw the roof when it collapsed last week, you know how important this it. So help the Alleghany Wellness Center with the Pepsi Raise the Roof Campaign to replace the canvas and vinyl cover over their pool with an insulated roof. To be awarded the grant, your vote is needed EVERY DAY!
Since this campaign started we've moved up from 382, to 82 and lower but we need to get into the TOP TEN! Keep it up Alleghany. Tell your friends to vote. Please follow the link below and vote each day.

Chamber Merchants accept gift certificates: This time of year Chamber member merchants and businesses are accepting Alleghany Chamber of Commerce gift certificates for purchases. They make a great gift for that hard-to-shop-for person on your gift list and they spend like cash. Don't delay, certificates need to be redeemed by Jan. 31, 2011. Drop by the Chamber, 58 South Main St., or call 372-5473 for information. (Pictured at the left, Halsey Drug's Jill Profitt receives a check from Chamber Director Bob Bamberg in exchange for Chamber gift certificates that were redeemed at Halsey Drug. Certificates can be used at Halsey's to buy medical supplies, cards, gift and flowers.)

NEW MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: The new Historic Davis-Bourne Inn and Tavern. Yes, the Davis-Bourne in Independence has reopened with a more relaxed feel, affordable dining and rooms, and a menu that has distinctly southern, creole and low country fare. I mean everything from spicy wings to fried okra, burgers, catfish, chicken etouffee and more. Eat in one of their dining rooms or relax in front of the big-screen TV. Open Wednesday through Saturday 3 until 9ish p.m. Learn more at DavisBourne.com or call 276-773-2137.

Take a quick survey to improve local transportation: Alleghany County is surveying the community for a Comprehensive Transportation Plan to guide development in the coming years. It's quick and easy and online! Please go to the following link and take a few minutes to plan our future. When you come to the question that asks how you heard about the survey, be sure to check Chamber of Commerce.
