Thursday, Nov. 27
When you sleep off that big Thanksgiving meal, it'll be getting dark and a good time to check out the High Country Lights. This is a huge display synchronized to music. If you haven't seen it, it's hard to believe. The display is at the Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Department, located on Glade Valley Road, 6.3 miles from US 21 South or 5.3 miles from US 18 North. This is a new location from last year that affords more parking. Santa will pay a visit Thanksgiving night and every Saturday through Christmas Eve to accept gift lists and give out candy to youngsters.

Friday, Nov. 26
Big Daddy Love is back in town at the Silver Dollar.

Saturday, Nov. 27
Get your picture with Santa at the Hospice office before the big parade.

The Christmas Parade begins down Main Street at 2p. The theme is a warm and cozy Blue Ridge Christmas. Wanna watch? Stake out your spot between Sparta School and Country Kitchen early. Wanna march, contact Sandy Rost 336-372-8062 (the more the merrier.)

Learn to be an animal tracker from a New River Park Ranger.

Alien Outlaw returns to Alleghany: In the 1980s, the movie Alien Outlaw was shot in Alleghany County. It wasn't the best movie that year but probably not the worst. Its one important distinction is that it was shot here and I recall a special excitement in the air. It was such an exceptional movie that it bypassed American release and went straight into the foreign market. Many of you old timers have probably been yearning for 25 years to see how it turned out. Wait no more. Saturday, Nov. 27, at 7p the Silver Dollar Music Park will be offering its Alleghany Premier. The original was a bit risque, but I've been advised that potentially problem scenes have been eliminated so that it should be suitable for kids of all ages.
Come out and see the familiar places and faces. Admission is $10 and that includes food! 336-372-6874
