Relay For Life kick-off

The Mustard Seed Cafe in the Smithey's building, 38 South Main St., Sparta, is hosting the Relay Kick-Off 5:30-6:30p Thursday, Jan. 14. Relay teams get everything you need to get started for 2010. Library program on M.L. King
The Bright Star Theatre presents "Struggle for Freedom: the Life of Martin Luther King, Jr.," in a special presentation of the Alleghany Library and Alleghany Arts Council at Sparta United Methodist Church fellowship hall, Monday, Jan. 18, beginning at 6:30p. There is no charge for this program on this civil right leader that is being offered in celebration of the upcoming Black History Month in February. 336-372-5573

Shatley D Railed at the Silver Dollar
Enjoy the sounds of Shatley D Railed, Laurel Springs' own Richard Shatley, live and unplugged. Friday, Jan. 22, at the Silver Dollar Music Park. North Carolina restaurants went smoke free in 2010 and the Appalachian District Health is asking everyone to celebrate clean-air dining experience by eating out on Tuesdays during January. Now you really didn't want to cook, did you?


Shriners seek auction items
New River Shrine Club is looking for donated items for their Winter Auction Feb. 13 at the Black Building at the County Fairgrounds in support of Shrine Children's hospitals.
