MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: SILVERSPOON SUPPER CLUB
You haven't had Sunday dinner until you've enjoyed the great Southern cooking at the Silverspoon Supper Club at the Silver Dollar Music Park, 214 Glade Valley Church Road, 11:30a-3p each Sunday. And they are open for supper at 6p before scheduled entertainment at the Dollar. Check out their menu and check out their schedule (Four-Wheel Drive is playing this Friday! HELP A KID WITH LUNCH
The Alleghany Ministerium (ministerial association) is raising money to buy breakfast and lunch for 250 children between the ages of 2 and 13 who would likely go hungry during the month of July. MUSIC HELPS TELL AFRICA STORY
This presentation by Obakunle Akinlana Thursday, April 29, at 6:30p, includes authentic artifacts, language, history, and African cultural orientation. Live drumming brings alive the program to make it both entertaining and educational. Everyone from children to senior citizens will enjoy this program. This program is sponsored by the Alleghany Arts Council with partial funding by a NC Arts Council Grassroots Grant. 336-372-5573

JAM ENTERTAINS AT FOUNDATION DINNER
An Evening with Alleghany JAM at Laurel Ridge Camp & Conference Center will be held Thursday, April 29, at 6:30p. Tickets are $25 per person and include a delicious dinner featuring a Moravian chicken pie and great entertainment by these young musicians. MOTLEY'S BBQ IS BACK
Stephanie Newman, step-daughter/daughter to Motley's founder, Eddie and Becky Motley, and her husband, Tim, are re-opening this famous barbecue restaurant at the intersection of US 221 and NC 113 in downtown Scottville Friday, May 30, at 4p. WELLNESS RUMMAGE SALE: BARGAINS GALORE
The Alleghany Wellness Center Rummage Sale begins at 7a, Saturday, May 1. Don't be late. The bargains will be gone. The Wellness Center is accepting donations through Friday. Do yourself a favor. ROCKHOUNDS: GEM VALLEY OPENS SAT!
Gem Valley, gem mining and gift shop, opens for the season this Saturday, May 1, 9a-4p, and will be open Thursdays through Mondays (closed Tuesday and Wednesday). Located at 2489 Little Peak Creek Road (off NC 88 just beyond Jerry's Midway Market). Pay them a visit. When panning for gems there is no telling what treasure you may find. ROTARY DRAW-DOWN AT THE DOLLAR
The Alleghany Rotary Club's big annual fund-raiser to benefit local charities is this Saturday, May 1, at 6p at the Silver Dollar Music Park. And the grand prize to be given away is $5,000! Tickets are $100 and include a sumptuous meal for two from the Dollar's own Silverspoon Supper Club (And I have a few tickets left: 336-200-2468).

CROOKED ROAD RAMBLERS AT THE LIBRARY
The Crooked Road Ramblers play old-time music In the style of their parents, grandparents, and cousins, Monday, May 3, at the Alleghany Library beginning at 6:30p. Members include Kilby Spencer on fiddle; Amanda Spencer, banjo; John Perry, guitar; Donald Hill, guitar and vocals; and Karen Carr, bass and vocals. There is no charge for this program. >> Barn Quilt Trails: Barns and other structures throughout Alleghany County are adorned with large squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main St., Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
>> Driving Loops: Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany countryside are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is a about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main St., Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
