Last week's Brief failed to mention all the local individuals who were recognized at the N.C. Recipients included Imaging Specialists, Ernest Joines, Avin Joines, June Furlow and Janice Alexander. Read all about it and follow the links for details at the Imaging Specialists website. Libary offers special programs
during Disabilities Awareness month
The Alleghany Library will show a documentary film, "A New Kind of Listening" Tuesday (tonight), Oct. 27, at 7p. It chronicles the work of a community theater group to create an original production with a cast that includes individuals with disabilities. Through their work together, Chris, a young man with cerebral palsy who was mislabeled profoundly mentally retarded because he could not speak, breaks through into stunning self-expression. Together the theater group proves that a small community arts project has the power to transform lives.

A Disability Awareness Workshop will be presented by Polly Medlicott Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Alleghany County Library, as a follow-up to the above documentary. Space is limited, so pre-registration is required for the workshop.336-372-5573

Halloween happening at Crouse Park
There'll be a crowd of kids at the park for the big Halloween Celebration Saturday, Oct. 31, 5-7p. Planned activities include a costume contest beginning at 6p, trunk or treating, food and a bounce house. Adults, you can participate. Businesses, you have three options. You can bring a trunk-or-treat vehicle. Or you can donate a give-away item for the Merchants Wagon.
